The Governor of Punjab said that in the journey of development that started with the independence of the country, NBT has been working towards making every section of the society knowledgeable. 

Last year the fair became virtual for the first time amid the coronavirus pandemic The event this year will be based on two themes: 'Mental Health' and 'Sustainability' It will be conducted virtually on 'Pragati E'.

The fair is expected to garner substantial footfall as entry is free.  

On the 7th day, the fair also saw the bibliophiles of the national capital turning up for the event despite sudden showers. Sanjeev Sharma, a Hindi professor from Rohini, said that rain cannot diminish his love for books and hence he came over to the book fair. 

Tripura`s Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Bhanulal Saha on Wednesday said the government will not tolerate protests at a book fair, after a Hindutva group shouted slogans and demonstrated against a book on Jammu and Kashmir at the fair.

Minister of State for Human Resources Development Mahendra Nath Pandey inaugurated the nine-day-long New Delhi World Book Fair.

The theme for this year`s event is `Manushi`, which will focus on writings on and by women.
