Comet 67P News
The European Space Agency (ESA) has shared a hidden image from Rosetta spacecraft, moments before it struck a comet.
In images taken in June 2016 by the Rosetta probe, a new 500- to 1,000-foot-long fracture was identified parallel to the original fracture spotted in August 2014.
The Rosetta mission on Friday ended its mission in a controlled descent of the spacecraft onto the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Researchers, including one of Indian-origin, have identified two large patches of water ice on the surface of comet 67P, perhaps the most studied comet in history. The elusive ice was detected, using data collected by the European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft, on the bottom part of the main lobe of the dumbbell-shaped comet, in a region called Imhotep.
The Rosetta space probe has been studying the comet for over a year and has detected an abundance of different gases pouring from its nucleus.
