Aravindan Balakrishnan, an Indian-origin Maoist leader, was sentenced to 23 years in jail by a UK court for a string of sexual assaults, rape of his own daughter for three decades.

The sentencing ends an over two-year police investigation into a case which Scotland Yard detectives described as "completely unique".
Aravindan Balakrishnan, 75, known as Comrade Bala, used sexual degradation and physical and mental violence to keep the women under his control.
A 75-year-old Indian-origin Maoist leader in the UK charged with modern day slavery, sexual assault and imprisonment of his own daughter on Thursday denied the charges and said his women followers competed among themselves to make sexual advances on him.
