Exercise for elderly News
In this analysis of previous studies, researchers from the University of Canberra looked at the effects of at least four weeks of structured physical exercise on the brain function of adults.
Older adults who exercised showed good cardiac fitness levels which improved their memory performance and increased brain activity patterns compared to their low fit peers.
Participants performed chair and floor mat exercises using stretch bands and other gentle exercises. Chinese breathing techniques and meditation were also integrated into the programme.
