Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami will brief Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday about the devastation caused by the cyclonic storm 'Gaja' and seek a comprehensive central assistance package to tide over the situation.
While moving west-southwestwards further, it is likely to weaken gradually and cross Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Cuddalore on Thursday evening as a Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 80-90 gusting to 100 kmph.
Tamil Nadu is likely to receive rainfall at many places with heavy falls at isolated places over the north and south coastal part of the state and Puducherry.
The cyclonic storm Gaja intensified into a severe storm on Tuesday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a cyclone alert for Tamil Nadu and the Puducherry coast.
Cyclone Gaja, which is expected to intensify as a 'severe storm' in the next 24 hours, will also impact parts of West Bengal, informed the state government.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the sea will remain “very rough” as cyclonic storm ‘Gaja’ is expected to cross between Chennai and Nagapattinam on November 15, Thursday. Speaking to mediapersons, IMD Chennai director said that fishermen had been advised not to venture in the sea till November 15.
