The four convicts were closely monitored by the Tihar jail administration and orders had been issued to keep an eye out for the convicts trying to create some sort of drama or distraction and maybe even attempts to commit suicide.

After the hanging of the four convicts, their bodies have been sent to the Deendayal Hospital for postmortem, which is written in the jail manual. The process of post mortem scheduled to start at around 8 am.

In a major development, a Delhi court on Tuesday (January 7) issued the death warrant against all four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case. The court ordered that all four convicts should be hanged at 7 am on January 22 at the Tihar jail.

Executions are rare in India and death sentences are awarded only in cases of rarest of rare crimes.
