In yet another attempt to win over the hearts and provide job opportunities to the youth, the Home Ministry has decided to hire around 16,000 locals from Jammu and Kashmir in various wings of India’s armed forces.

"The examination was conducted today in which more than 3,000 youth from the state, including 800 from the valley appeared," a Defence spokesman said.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday appealed to youth in turbulent Kashmir to shun violence and at the same time said security forces will have to act in self-defence if they are attacked.

The looted arms could be used to target security personnel during protests, which are most intense on Friday.
