According to news agency ANI, the construction of the statue incurred a cost of Rs four lakh, which was contributed by workers of the Left party.
Taking to microblogging site Twitter, the Congress chief accused the BJP and the RSS of encouraging the “tearing down of Lenin statues in Tripura”.
The act is seen as a vengeance after two statues of Lenin and Periyar were vandalised in Tripura soon after BJP toppled the Left Front government in the state elections.
The MHA has asked the states to take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents.
This came a day after a statue of the Communist icon was demolished by a bulldozer at Belonia College Square.
Police say they were drunk and attacked a bust of Periyar in northern Tamil Nadu's Tirupattur. The incident comes hours after a post by BJP leader H Raja on destroying Periyar statues sparked controversy.
Dravidar Kazhagam has dared the BJP to try and raze a Periyar statue.
While Left leader targeted the BJP and RSS for the issue, the JDU also said that all ideologies must be respected and supported in India.
