The NSCN-GPRN has announced that it will join the Naga peace process with the Centre. NSCN-GPRN had defected from the NSCN-K faction.

Khaplang, 77, died at the NSCN-K Council Headquarters in Taga in Myanmar`s Sagaing Division on Friday night.

A day after the death of NSCN-K chairman S.S. Khaplang in Myanmar, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Saturday appealed to the Indian Nagas in the outfit to surrender and join the national mainstream.

Khaplang, who was a diabetic and suffered from other health issues, passed away in Taka, the sources told IANS.

India and Myanmar on Wednesday agreed to closely coordinate with each other on border security while Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed New Delhi's commitment to help develop Myanmar.

After abrogating the ceasefire, Khaplang`s rebels went on a killing spree, attacking Indian soldiers in Nagaland and Manipur.  

In a move to bring lasting peace to Nagaland, a group of people representing the civil society in the state has reached Myanmar to bring the NSCN-K back on the peace path.

The Centre on Monday declared the NSCN -K and all its formations and front organizations as a terrorist organization under the UAPA act.

India on Tuesday claimed that a camp allegedly belonging to NSCN-K, a banned Naga insurgent group responsible for killing of 18 Army soldiers in Manipur in June, was demolished along the Indo-Myanmar border by the Myanmarese security forces last weekend.

The Union Home Ministry, which banned the Naga insurgent group NSCN-K, responsible for the killing of 18 Indian army soldiers, has made no mention of the outfit's involvement in the deadly attack on June 4 in Manipur.

NSCN-K leader SS Khaplang never wanted ceasefire with the Indian government and had agreed to it only because of pressure from the Naga civil society, according to NSCN-Unification general secretary Kitovi Zhimomi.

Minister of State for External Affairs Gen. VK Singh (retd) on Wednesday said Indian troops operated along the India-Myanmar border and did not enter Myanmar to act against militants of NSCN-K and some other militant groups.

 Expressing shock over the ban of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) by the central government, leaders from Nagaland`s political and social arena said the faction deserved opportunities to be allowed to "negotiate" and not be banned.

A plan by insurgent outfit NSCN-K to blow up a major bridge in Assam`s Silchar town connecting the Barak Valley to the state`s neighbouring Dima Hasao district and Manipur was busted on Tuesday, police said. Four people have been arrested in this connection.

Three months after the gruesome attack in Manipur that left 18 army personnel dead, NIA on Thursday announced a bounty of Rs 17 lakh for providing information about two top leaders of militant Naga group NSCN-K including its chief SS Khaplang who were allegedly behind the strike.
