One of the four convicts Pawan Kumar Gupta had filed both curative and mercy petition before the hanging. The Supreme Court dismissed his curative petition on Monday but President Ram Nath Kovind is yet to take a decision over his mercy plea.

The fresh petition filed by Akshay Thakur claimed that the earlier petition was incomplete. Lawyer of the convict AP Singh said that Akshay filed the plea on February 25 which reached the President Secretariat on Saturday.

Pawan had earlier filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in Supreme Court claiming that he was a juvenile when he committed the crime in 2012 and this fact was not taken into account by Delhi High Court during the proceedings in the case.

A Delhi Court on Monday (January 27) dismissed the review petition filed by father of one of the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case convicts, Pawan Gupta, challenging magistrate order which dismissed the application questioning the credibility of the sole witness in this case. In his plea, Pawan's father had also claimed that the sole witness was tutored and his statements were credible.
