The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is commencing today in the historic Uzbek city of Samarkand
Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Iran's Ebrahim Raisi, Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif along with leaders from Central Asian nations will take part in the Summit
The SCO currently comprises eight Member States -China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan
Four Observer States interested in acceding to full membership are Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia
Six "Dialogue Partners" include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey
The Shanghai Five, formed in 1996, became the SCO in 2001 with the inclusion of Uzbekistan.
