The name of the terminus has been changed several times. Formerly known as Victoria Terminus, the terminus got named "Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus"after Shivaji, the 17th-century warrior king in March 1996. In 2017, the station was again renamed "Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus."
