A group of environmental activists deflated the tires of SUVs in 18 cities across 8 countries in a single night. This work has been done by a group called Tire Extinguishers. This group says that SUVs are a climate disaster and cause air pollution. Last month, for the first time, this group had taken out air from the tires of 900 vehicles together.

Activist Varavara Rao, who under house arrest in connection with Bhima Koregaon case, was on Sunday sent to police custody till November 26 by Pune Sessions Court.

The Supreme Court on Friday will be hearing the review plea filed by historian Romilla Thapar against the verdict that refused SIT probe into arrests of five right activists in Bhima Koregaon case. 

Earlier the apex court on August 29 had ordered the house arrest till September 6 observing that dissent was the “safety valve” of democracy. 

Seeking their 14-day remand, the public prosecutor informed the court that the accused were involved in the crime, adding that several documents were seized during the search operation from their houses.

Earlier on Tuesday several prominent activists -- P Varavara Rao, Gautam Navlakha, Sudha Bhardwaj and her daughter Anu Bhardwaj, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves were detained by the police for their suspected Maoist links.

The rally, to be held on the Midnapore College grounds in the afternoon, would be the Prime Minister's first visit to the state this year.
