The physical start-up of the second unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) in Tamil Nadu that went critical last week has been conducted successfully, a source at the plant said on Thursday.
The first atomic power unit at Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) was shut down on Friday morning following a leakage in the reactor`s coolant system, said the sectoral regulator, adding there was no radioactivity release or exposure.
The unit which was under annual maintenance shutdown for nearly seven months restarted fission on January 21.
According to Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO), the Kudankulam nuclear power plant is expected to be connected to the grid on January 24.
