The Greater Noida Sports Complex ground has been battling adverse weather conditions, with continuous rain over the past week.

Despite the BCCI's offers of alternative venues such as Kanpur's Green Park Stadium and Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, the ACB chose Noida, citing better proximity and connectivity.

The opening day of the historic one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand was called off due to poor conditions at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex. 

The political instability and security issues have made it difficult for international teams to visit Afghanistan.

In the second week of September 2024, the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground will witness the inaugural one-off test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand marking a landmark event for sports enthusiasts. The competition between two teams of fifteen and twenty players will be the first of its kind to grace the city, drawing an impressive crowd of over 10,000 passionate cricket fans.

Afghanistan will host New Zealand in a historic one-off Test at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, Greater Noida, marking the venue's debut as the 124th Test ground.

Before the much-awaited Test season in Asia, New Zealand Cricket have roped in Rathour and Herath to guide them in the challenging conditions. Rathour, who was the batting coach of the Indian cricket team under Rahul Dravid, will be there with the team for the one-off Test against Afghanistan.

The likes of Rachin Ravindra and Ben Sears were already present in India as they were practicing at the Super Kings Academy. The Afghan team on the other hand will be playing without the service of Rashid Khan, who has been battling with back injury issues and as a result, Hashmatullah Shahidi will be leading the team.
