Najeeb Tarakai, the Afghanistan cricketer who was badly injured in a fatal car accident in Jalalabad on Friday, died on Tuesday. He was 29. He had sustained severe injuries and was in a coma after the accident. Confirming the shocking news, the Afghanistan Cricket Board took to Twitter to announce the demise of the cricketer. Najeeb made his international debut in 2014 against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. He also played 12 T20Is for the country, where he also scored a 90 against Ireland in Greater Noida.

Afghanistan are likely to play their first-ever Test match against Australia in Perth between December 7-11. The one-off Test will not be part of ICC`s World Test Championship, as the tournament is limited to the top nine teams only. The Test match against Australia will be Afghanistan`s fifth game in the longest format after gaining Full-Member status in 2017.
