 Tensions flared in central Kolkata on Saturday after police resorted to a lathi-charge on protestors participating in a justice march related to the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case. The protestors had planned a high-intensity procession to the West Bengal state secretariat, 'Nabanna', under the banner of the ‘Nabanna Chalo Abhiyan’.

The Bengal BJP leader's warning came ahead of the Panchayat elections on July 8 and the counting of votes on July 11.

BJP MLA  Agnimitra Paul on Tuesday claimed she has foiled an attempt to smuggle cattle across the border and has rescued nine cattle heads.

The tension broke out between the BJP and Trinamool supporters after the BJP candidate, Agnimitra Paul reached there to inspect a polling booth. 

BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad is set to campaign against TMC’s Shatrughan Sinha. Prasad will be joined by BJP MP from Pataliputra Ram Kripal Yadav. BJP has fielded Agnimitra Paul, who is an MLA in the West Bengal Assembly.

The Union Minister was manhandled and heckled by a group of students of Jadavpur University during his visit to the campus to attend an event organised by ABVP in Kolkata on Thursday. He was rescued after Bengal Governor rushed to the University.
