A preliminary report by the Air Accidents Investigation Bureau (AAIB) revealed that the aircraft’s engines had shut down just seconds after take-off due to fuel supply being cut off.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday reacted to a report claiming bungling in identifying the bodies of Britons killed in the crash of Air India flight 171 in Ahmedabad. External affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal asserted that all mortal remains were handled with utmost "professionalism".

Air India Fuel Control Switch Inspection Report: Following the fatal Ahmedabad crash and the DGCA’s directive issued on July 14, Air India and its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express initiated immediate voluntary inspections.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chairperson Jennifer Homendy has said that it is premature to draw any conclusions regarding the investigation into the fatal crash of Air India Flight 171 on June 12.

The response came after a Wall Street Journal report claimed that cockpit audio from the ill-fated flight allegedly indicated the captain had manually cut off the fuel supply to the engines. The AAIB has taken serious exception to such claims being reported as fact while the investigation is still underway.

Indian investigators cited a 2018 FAA advisory that had warned Boeing operators to inspect the locking mechanism of fuel cutoff switches to prevent unintentional movement. However, the FAA had not mandated any action.

Airlines Fuel Switch Locking System: The directive follows preliminary findings from the Air India Boeing 787 crash investigation, which revealed that the fuel control switches had moved to the "cutoff" position just before impact, shutting off fuel supply to both engines.  

The Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association (ICPA) on Sunday condemned 'insinuations of pilot suicide' as baseless and insensitive, saying the crew acted in line with their training for an emergency. The pilots' associations have also questioned the selective media leaks hinting at pilot error ahead of the publication of the preliminary report.

An Air India pilot simulation of the AI 171 crash points to a potential technical malfunction, with experts suggesting dual engine failure due to power or hydraulic loss, as the official investigation continues.

In a major breakthrough for the Air India Flight AI-171 investigation, data from both the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) has been successfully downloaded by the AAIB. Analysis is now underway to determine the cause and enhance aviation safety.
