Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri directed the ED to file its response to Chidambaram's petition against a trial court decision taking cognisance of the chargesheet.
The case relates to the alleged irregularities in grant of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval in the Aircel-Maxis deal. The approval was allegedly granted in 2006 when P Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister.
P Chidambaram and his son Karti were granted bail on the condition of furnishing a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and a surety of the same amount each. The court categorically mentioned that this is a conditional bail with the direction that since the investigation is still going on, both of them will be available as and when required.
Chawla is named, along with other bureaucrats and former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, in the Aircel-Maxis bribery case being probed by the CBI.

The CBI is probing alleged irregularities in grant of FIPB approval in Aircel-Maxis deal, while the ED is probing alleged money-laundering related to the deal.
The hearing on Chidambaram's plea will take place before Special Judge O P Saini on Thursday.
Both Chidambaram and Karti have denied the allegations levelled against them by the CBI and the ED.
This is the fourth time that the Congress veteran faced questioning over the alleged money laundering case.
Chidambaram has alleged that the "CBI is not interested in a fair trial" in the case.
The Aircel-Maxis cases pertains to grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to firm M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd in 2006 for investment in Aircel.
Special CBI Judge O P Saini will hear the matter at 2 pm.
Refusing to make further public comment, senior Chidambaram added, "The case is now before the Hon'ble Court and it will be contested vigorously. I shall make no more public comment."
The ED mentioned the name of Chidambaram senior at various places in the chargesheet, but he has not been arrayed as an accused in the case.
The bench, after perusing the documents placed before it in a sealed cover, said sensitive issues were involved in the matter.
P Chidambaram was on Tuesday questioned for over six hours by the ED during his second round of appearance in the Aircel-Maxis money laundering case.
Karti Chidambaram and several others are under the CBI and ED scanner for their alleged role in Aircel-Maxis case PMLA act.
Congress spokesperson Surjewala said that PM Modi and his government use the ED and the CBI as "captive puppies".
The ED case pertains to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval granted in 2006 by P Chidambaram.
The matter has been adjourned till November 20.
