Sharma had joined the BJP on Thursday (January 14), days after he opted for voluntary retirement from the IAS.
Sharma has also served in key positions in the PMO after Modi became prime minister in 2014.
The BJP also named Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, its state president Swatantra Dev Sing and Lakshman Prasad Acharya as its candidates for the polls.

The 1988 batch officer from Mau district in Uttar Pradesh is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and had worked with him in Gujarat.
"I sincerely realise my mistake and while tendering my unqualified and unconditional apology, I specially state I have not wilfully violated the order of this court as I cannot even dream of violating or circumventing order of this court."
This unprecedented act of sending the top CBI bosses on leave came after the feud between the agency no. 1 Verma and no. 2 Asthana came out in public.
