Consumers on Friday flocked to buy gold and jewellery on Akshaya Tritiya, considered an auspicious day for purchasing valuables, with jewellers seeing 40 percent jump in sales over last year.
With cash flow almost normalising after demonetisation, customers on Friday thronged jewellery shops across the country to usher in Akshaya Tritiya.
Silver remained under selling pressure and lost another Rs 200 at Rs 40,500 per kg due to reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Akshaya Tritiya marks the third day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishaka in the Hindu calendar which often coincides with April –May according to the Gregorian calendar.
Those who can afford can buy gold if they want to and those who can’t can still celebrate the festival.
In Sanskrit, Akshaya means ‘never diminishing’. Any business venture or a new initiative that commences on this day will multiply manifold and ushers in prosperity.
