Scholars on Friday made a strong pitch for strengthening Sufism and "changing the perception" about Islam globally by spreading the faith effectively.

Around 200 scholars from across 20 countries will converge during the event that will conclude at the historic Ramlila Maidan.

In a bid to spread Islam's message of peace and tolerance as a counterpoint to the rising global violent extremism, the first World Sufi Forum is being organised here and will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the inaugural day on March 17.
