For the study, researchers from the Centre for Disease Dynamics, Economics and Policy (CDDEP), a public health research organisation with headquarters in Washington DC, and New Delhi, analysed samples of 530 birds collected in 18 poultry farms for resistance to a range of antibiotic medications critical to human medicine.
As part of WHO’s efforts to address growing global resistance to antimicrobial medicines, the list was drawn up in a bid to guide and promote research and development (R&D) of new antibiotics.
