By the third quarter of 2023, it's possible that the updated AirPods Pro 2 will be on the market.

It comes as the European Union looks to mandate USB-C charging on new smartphones, tablets, and headphones released in the region in late 2024. Gurman believes that in order to comply with the rules Apple might bring USB-C to the next-gen AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods by 2024.

Apple AirPods 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen versions will come with a new price for Indian customers. AirPods 2nd generation is currently available at Rs 14,100, up from around Rs 11,000. In India, the AirPods Max cost Rs 59,900.

The Cupertino-based tech giant has further asked the manufacturing lines to cut the production of AirPods by 25 to 30%. As per Nikkei Asia, Apple is planning to make AirPods between 75 million and 85 million units for 2021 as against its previous plans of making more products. Now a lot of them are unsold and therefore, Apple AirPods price has also been reduced from Rs 24,900 to Rs 20,900.

It is also expected to have touch controls like the Pro model. It will also offer similar five hours of continuous audio playback as what we got from the second-generation AirPods. The new AirPods will also have the Spatial Audio feature.

Apple has offered repairs and replacements of the AirPods Pro facing active noise cancellation issues. Apple will also repair or replace the AirPods Pro if it comes with a crackling or static sound.

Apple could sell as many as 85 million AirPods next year, making AirPods the company's third-largest business after iPhones and iPads by 2021.

The new AirPods will be available to order through Apple authorised resellers later this spring, the company said. 

Last year, the Cupertino-based company had said that the iPhone 8 range and later models would have wireless charging capabilities.

The next iteration of AirPods are expected to be water-resistant and could feature hands-free support for 'Hey Siri'.
