Apple wants to lower its carbon footprint by reducing the amount of whole-unit replacements. If you recall, Face ID was first introduced on the iPhone X in 2017. According to the memo, the Face ID replacement would be accessible for iPhone XS and later models.

Apple's proprietary face recognition technology has been updated with the ability to unlock an iPhone using Face ID with a mask. The new beta release of iOS 15.4 demonstrates that Apple is finally responding to user pleas to allow users to unlock their iPhones with Face ID while wearing a mask. When wearing a mask, Apple has trained new algorithms to recognise users based on their eye region.

This Face ID or Touch ID will be used to authenticate and make you sign in. Now Passkey will make its way to the iPhone, iPad, and Macs later this year. The Passkey is considered a pretty secure method for authentication and it also promises to prevent phishing attacks.

At iPhone X launch event, Apple`s Senior Vice President Phil Schiller had claimed that Face ID can distinguish human`s real face from masks, thanks to its artificial intelligence (AI).
