India has underlined the need for the UN to allocate more resources for responding to emergencies like Ebola and other humanitarian and natural disasters as the world body adopted a budget of USD 5.4 billion to carry out its vital work during the 2016-2017.

India has expressed its strong dismay at the lack of accountability and transparency in the framing of peacekeeping mandates by the UN Security Council, saying this "failing" by the world body is resulting in rising casualties among peacekeepers and civilians.

India will host a "very substantive and significant" summit meeting of the G-4 nations aimed at pushing for early UN Security Council reforms in the wake of the UN General Assembly adopting a decision to commence text-based negotiations on the long-pending reforms.

With the "path-breaking" decision by the UN General Assembly to advance efforts for UN Security Council reforms, India's top diplomat here today said that countries should now negotiate on the text on the table and give their national positions on the issue.
