The much-awaited West Bengal and Assam Assembly elections are here with the two states beginning voting at 7 am on Saturday (March 27, 2021) in the first phase.

The Congress on Wednesday (March 10) announced a list of 26 candidates for the second phase of the Assam legislative Assembly elections. The party has also appointed Mohan Prakash and Jayadev Jena as All India Congress Committee (AICC).

The newly-formed Assam Jatiya Parishad on Sunday (March 7) announced the second list of 50 candidates for the three-phased assembly polls The party had on Friday released the first list of 18 candidates and fielded Gogoi from Duliajan.

Unhappy with the denial of party ticket for the assembly election in Assam, BJP minister Sum Ronghang on Sunday (March 7) joined the opposition party, Congress. "I did not like the way I was denied the ticket. I performed my duties with full dedication. I did not get the ticket due to the conspiracy of certain individuals," said Ronghang.

Candidates for 70 seats have been named out of the 126 seats in Assam Assembly. As many as 26 seats have been given to Asom Gana Parishad and eight seats to United People's Party Liberal (UPPL).
