Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said in a press conference held at the State BJP headquarters in Guwahati that the BJP and its ally party AGP won 300 out of 397 Zilla Parishad seats and 1436 out of 2192 Anchalik Panchayat seats in 27 districts of the state.
Assam records 79.23% turnout in peaceful second phase of panchayat polls; BJP highlights extensive campaign efforts and voter engagement.
The Assam State Election Commission has made all necessary arrangements to ensure a free and fair election.
The BJP has bagged 10,953 seats, followed by the Congress 8,646, Independents 2,927 as counting for the 26,808 posts across the state continued, Assam State Election Commissioner (ASEC) said in a press release.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal thanked the people for taking part in the election in large numbers and voting for "development and good governance".
Voting will continue till late in the night in 900 polling stations as many voters entered the polling stations in the last hour before the end of the stipulated time, Assam State Election Commissioner H N Bora told reporters here.
The counting of votes will take place on December 12.
