Kapil Sibal, one of the leaders behind the letter, withdrew an angry tweet saying Rahul Gandhi "had personally informed him" that he never made the remarks attributed to him.

"I would not like the children to go to encounter sites, it is not good and I am not in this favour that children rush to the encounter sites," he told reporters.
