FIFA has lifted its three-decade ban on Iraq hosting international football, a move hailed by the country`s sports authorities on Saturday as a boost for its most popular game.

Two suicide car bombers blew themselves up at checkpoints on a highway near oilfields in the southern Iraqi province of Basra on Friday, killing several people.

Iraq is searching for "highly dangerous" radioactive material stolen last year, according to an environment ministry document and seven security, environmental and provincial officials who fear it could be used as a weapon if acquired by Islamic State.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi held his weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday in Basra.
