62-year-old beggar Sharif Baunk is a resident of Samdar Khurd of Pipraich police station. He is a deaf and mute person.
Sharif suffered fractures in his leg besides serious head injuries.
Police found over Rs 3 lakh from his pockets.
He begs on the streets of London and earns between £200 and £300 every day. The landlord admitted, "I spend pretty much all of the money I get on drugs. He said, "I sleep outside the station."
Police found that the woman beggar owns five residential buildings in Gharbia and Qaliubia and nearly LE3 million in two banks.
"The woman had feigned a leg amputation and used a wheelchair while begging in several provinces of the country," claimed a report.
She has been referred to public prosecution for further questioning.
The beggar identified as Parvatham (70), claimed that she earned the money by seeking alms from the devotees visiting the temple. Parvatham was found ill outside the temple where she was requesting passersby for help, said the police.
Only recently Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the LMC to identify beggars in the state capital and move them to shelter homes as a part of the rehabilitation of the destitute.
Out of the total of 4,13,670 beggars, 2.21 lakh are men and 19.1 lakh women.
