Voting for seven assembly seats across six states has started. Many of these seats are a direct contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party and regional parties.

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Sunil Arora announced that the Bihar assembly election 2020 will be held in three phases beginning from October 28 amid strict COVID-19 protocols.

Bihar has a total of 40 seats, out of which BJP won 17 seats, Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) won on 16 seats, and Lok Janashakti Party of Ram Vilas Paswan bagged six seats.

The BJP-led NDA registered a thumping victory in Bihar, winning 39 out of 40 seats at stake in the state. The performance of BJP-led NDA, which also includes JD(U) and LJP, is the best for any political formation in Bihar in decades.

The BJP maintained its superlative performance in Chattisgarh too as the party has grabbed lead in 9 out of 11 seats in the state. The Congress is leading in just two seats. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the BJP had bagged 10 seats and the Congress one. Interestingly, the Congress has never won more than one seat in Chhattisgarh in the three Lok Sabha elections since the formation of state from Madhya Pradesh in 2002.

While the BJP won 17 out of the 17 seats it had contested, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) registered victory on 16 out of 17 seats it had contested.

The catastrophic defeat of the BJP in the Bihar Assembly poll might have resulted in the cancellation of party president Amit Shah's much-touted rally, but the party's state leadership asserted that the drubbing would only have a 'temporary' impact.
