"Bimal Gurung is a closed chapter," said Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) faction chief Binoy Tamang. Binoy Tamang, opposed to the proposal of Bimal Gurung's return to the Hills, said the people of the Darjeeling don't want him back.

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, an electoral ally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), on Wednesday pulled out of the alliance. This comes as a major blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election. Party president Bimal Gurung announced the move at a press meet in Kolkata.

In Darjeeling by-election, Neeraj Tamang Zimba of BJP defeated GJM leader Binoy Tamang, who fought as an independent candidate with TMC support.

The Supreme Court disposed of the petitions against two Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leaders Roshan Giri and Bimal Gurung, seeking protection to participate in campaigning for the Lok Sabha election 2019 on Wednesday. The top court directed them to approach the Calcutta High Court for interim relief within four days. 

The GJM leader said he had nothing against the people of Bengal but the language and culture of Gorkhas were distinct from them and whatever they were demanding was within the ambit of the Constitution.

Gurung's counsel claimed before a bench of Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan that the state was proceeding in a "biased manner" against GJM members.

The apex court said the movement was one thing, but no one can be allowed to take law into his own hand.

The Supreme Court restrained Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government to arrest suspended Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) chief Bimal Gurung in connection with Gorkhaland protests case.

The police said the fire broke out after midnight and was brought under control around 3 a.m. on Sunday.

The West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) has summoned Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) chief Bimal Gurung for "repeated gross violation of child rights", the statutory body`s chief said on Saturday.

Union home secretary Rajiv Gauba has been directed to hold an official level meeting within a fortnight to discuss all related issues. 

In an audio message, Gurung said the central government should immediately begin tripartite talks on Gorkhaland.  

Other than Gurung, the warrants were issued against his wife Asha Gurung, GJM General Secretary Roshan Giri, party`s youth wing head Prakash Gurung and Chief Convenor of the Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee Kalyan Dewan.

With an objective to bring normalcy back in Darjeeling, West Bengal Tourism Minister Goutam Deb took out a peace rally at Garidhura area, near Kurseong, on Wednesday.

Days after his expulsion from the GJM for alleged involvement in "anti-party activities", ousted Gorkha leader Anit Thapa on Tuesday led a silent rally in Kurseong township near here demanding peace.

A massive search operation launched by the West Bengal police for the absconding Gorkha Janmukti chief Bimal Gurung continued even today.

This comes right after the expulsion of party assistant general secretary Binay Tamang and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) member Anit Thapa for violating party line.

Since August 15, picketing has been withdrawn by the GJM from various parts of Darjeeling hills. 

The GJM chief reiterated that he would not compromise on the demand for Gorkhaland.

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha would attend the August 29 all party meeting convened by the West Bengal government on the Darjeeling issue, and raise the demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland during the parleys, a senior party leader said on Friday.
