BIMSTEC summit News
Under India's stewardship, BIMSTEC has transformed into a dynamic and action-oriented platform with the potential to shape the future of regional cooperation and integration.
Key leaders from countries including Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Bhutan will also be present during the summit.
During the virtual summit, the Prime Minister said that the recent developments in Europe have raised questions about the "stability of the international order".
BIMSTEC is a regional multilateral organisation comprising seven member states
These states are in the littoral and adjacent areas of the Bay of Bengal constituting a contiguous regional unity
The members include Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand
Earlier, PM Modi's visit to the UAE on January 6 was postponed due to the Omicron crisis
BIMSTEC is a seven-member grouping that includes India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, and Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka was keen to hold the summit last year several times but it could not happen due to the Covid crisis
Sri Lanka is the chair of the grouping and had earlier proposed holding a virtual summit on 9th December which has now been postponed.
PM Modi is in Nepal to attend the 4th BIMSTEC Summit.
BIMSTEC Summit would be held from August 30 to August 31.
While apprising the Lower House about the upcoming BIMSTEC summit, Prime Minister Oli underscored that the summit would be fruitful to achieve sustainable development through poverty alleviation and would help to tackle the challenges of climate change and help to expand connectivity.
