Rafa Nadal began the season with three titles and 20 consecutive wins but will head into the US Open after only one summer hardcourt match. 

German fifth seed Alexander Zverev reached the US Open semi-final with a 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(1), 6-3 victory over Croatian Borna Coric in the quarters. Zverev reached his second Grand Slam semi-final this year and became the first German male to reach the last four at the US Open since Boris Becker in 1995. He will now face Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the semi-finals on Friday.

As a result, Coric becomes the second tennis player to be tested positive for the pandemic. 

Nick Kyrgios made an unsavoury exit from the tournament. 

Zverev has emerged as one of the brightest stars in men's tennis after victories over Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic en route to an ATP Finals triumph in November, but the 21-year-old German remains unable to find his best form at Grand Slams.

Coric gave Croatia a flying start with an emphatic 6-2 7-5 6-4 win over Chardy and the 33-year-old Tsonga, out for most of the season after knee surgery, was pummelled 6-3 7-5 6-4 by world number seven Cilic.

The 30-year-old Argentine who is ranked fourth in the world and had been enjoying one of the best seasons of his career is wearing a splint on his right leg.

Djokovic climbed up to the 2nd spot after claiming the Shanghai Masters title for the 4th time against Croatia's Borna Coric on Sunday. 

The 21-year-old saved three match points to hold serve in the ninth game before Djokovic served out to clinch his fourth title of the season.

Federer admitted that he could have done a better job in serving, adding the Croatian had "more punch" than him.

A win in Shanghai will add the 72nd trophy to Djokovic`s total tally of career titles, making it all the more impressive. 

Coric, seeded 13th, will next face American qualifier Bradley Klahn, who claimed a hard-fought 4-6 6-4 6-3 win over Nick Kyrgios.

Borna Coric kept his cool to prevail in a thrilling winner-takes-all duel with fellow young gun Frances Tiafoe on Sunday and steer Croatia into the final of the Davis Cup for the second time in three years with a monumental 3-2 victory over the U.S.

Roger Federer did not drop a set last year as he ended a five-year wait for his eighth Wimbledon title, beating Croatia Marin Cilic in the final to move past the professional era record he shared with American Pete Sampras.

Borna Coric, playing in his first grasscourt final, showed great mental toughness and determination to fend off two set points before clinching the opening set after 57 minutes.

Zverev advances to a Friday semi-final against Spanish 16th seed Carreno Busta, who survived a match point to upset South African sixth seed Anderson 6-4 5-7 7-6(6). 

World number one Roger Federer survived a scare from unseeded Borna Coric to beat him 5-7 6-4 6-4 in the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday and set up a final showdown with Juan Martin del Potro who cruised to a 6-2 6-3 win over Milos Raonic.

Bautista Agut needed only one hour and 43 minutes to mark his fourth victory in five encounters over Coric. 

Croatian Borna Coric returned to the scene of one of his best wins, starting the Dubai Championships on Tuesday with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over injured Richard Gasquet.

The 20-year-old won 6-3, 7-5 following a display of powerful hitting against a Croatian opponent who had accounted for the number two seed Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round.
