The 30-share BSE index ended 185.93 points or 0.35 per cent lower at 52,549.66.
Kotak Bank was the top loser in the Sensex pack, shedding over 1 per cent, followed by ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, Mahindra and Mahindra, SBI and Axis Bank.
On the other hand, PowerGrid, HUL, NTPC, Dr Reddy's and Nestle India were among the gainers.
While the 30-share BSE index ended 41.75 points or 0.09 percent higher at 48,732.55, the broader NSE Nifty fell 18.70 points or 0.13 percent to 14,677.80.
Asian Paints was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying over 8 percent, followed by ITC, Nestle India, L&T, HUL and Reliance Industries.
Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.92 percent higher at USD 67.67 per barrel.
The decision to lower the benchmark rate by 25 bps to 6 percent was already factored in, traders said. They added that no change in cash reserve ratio (CRR) left the markets cold too.
