Five BSP MLAs have withdrawn their support to the BSP`s official candidate, Ramji Gautam, for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections. The development is bound to cast its shadow on the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. BSP supremo Mayawati has also demanded action against the five MLAs for working against the party.

A bench of Justices Arun Mishra, Vineet Saran and M R Shah was informed by senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Speaker, that earlier in the day that the Rajasthan High Court has passed an order on the plea filed by BJP MLA Madan Dilawar. On August 17, the top court had deferred the hearing on Dilawar's plea after it was informed that the Chief Justice of the High Court has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 and the functioning was postponed till August 19.

The SC will on Monday hear the petition of BJP MLA Madan Dilawar challenging the Rajasthan HC's decision in which the HC had refused to stay the Rajasthan Assembly Speaker's decision to approve the merger of 6 BSP MLAs in the state in Congress. A three-judge bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra will hear the petition. In his plea, Dilawar has requested that the voting rights of these 6 BSP MLAs should not be allowed to vote in the upcoming session of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly scheduled to start on August 14.
