Maa Chandraghanta blesses her bhakts with valour and removes all the obstacles from their lives.
The nine-day long festivity of Chaitra Navratri is in full swing. This year, it began from March 25 and will last till April 2, on Ram Navami respectively. There are four types of Navratris in the year, out of which only widely celebrated - the Chaitra (spring) and Shardiya Navratri (autumn). The other two are Ashada and Magha Gupt Navratri.
The goddess can take a ferocious form if the need arises for the betterment of society.
Goddess Chandraghanta is also known by other names such as Chandrakhanda, Chandika or Rannchandi.
Seated on a tiger, Goddess Chandraghanta is depicted with Dashabhuja or ten hands.
Devi Durga was jointly created by the holy trinity - Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver) and Shiva (the destroyer) to eliminate a demon named Mahishasur, who's treachery ruined peace and sanctity in the three worlds.
The Goddess wears the crescent on her head which resembles a moon and hence her name is Chandraghanta.
During Navratri, goddess Chandraghantra, which is a form of Durga is worshipped. Chandraghanta means "one who has a half-moon shaped like a bell". The goddess is also known by the name of Chandrakhanda, Chandika or Ramchandi.
