Activity in China`s services sector accelerated in May as new business rose at the fastest pace in three years, a private survey showed on Wednesday, a rare piece of good news for policymakers struggling to reviving a cooling economy.
The services purchasing managers` index (PMI) compiled by HSBC/Markit jumped to 54.1 in August - the strongest in 17 months - from a nine-year low of 50.0 in July.
The weaker readings in services raise the question of whether Beijing needs to do more to support growth, particularly in the rapidly cooling property sector.
