The epidemic has spread rapidly because of the deterioration in hygienic and sanitary conditions and the disruption of water supply in the country, which has suffered an armed conflict since 2014, the WHO said.
The International Committee of the Red Cross has expected the suspected cases of cholera in Yemen to reach 600,000 by the end of 2017.
Maurer warned that the unprecedented outbreak of cholera was "alarming and growing".
Malnutrition is one of the main challenges in containing the disease.
The WHO on Sunday said the number of suspected cases has increased to 116,700, 14,880 more than on June 8, reports Efe news.
