The train services have primarily been hit across Murshidabad. Trains were stopped at Jangipur, Mahipal and other railway stations nearby. Trains services between Lalgola and Palasi has been cancelled. Protestors have torched down a ticket counter at Sakrail railway station.

Amid protests in the northeastern states over the Citizenship Act, 2019, the Indian Army has issued an advisory cautionary people to be aware of fake news and false information being spread on social media by some people against Army's action in the northeast.

There were no reports of violence from Guwahati on Friday where cultural personalities and civil society members were on fast for 10 hours following a call given by the All Assam Students Union, which is leading the protests. In the morning, the administration relaxed curfew in Guwahati and Dibrugarh, following which shops and markets opened the shutters and people queued up to stock food and other essentials in view of the ongoing protests.

"We told them (BJP government at the Centre) not to play with fire. They say they will forcibly implement CAA and NRC (National Register of Citizens). I would like to state categorically again that NRC and CAA won't be implemented in West Bengal," Mamata Banerjee said.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed by the Parliament earlier this week and has now become an Act following President Ram Nath Kovind's nod. 

In a statement, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday said that the Bill is against secular values enshrined in the Constitution and asserted that his government would not allow the legislation to be implemented in his state.
