The move comes close to the heels of the Kerala Assembly passing a similar resolution, saying the amended law is against the provisions of Right to Equality granted by the Indian Constitution. 

The Act grants Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

The move came after some faculty member complaint that on Dec 17 some students sung a few lines of a poem by Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz as a mark of protest against CAA and police crackdown on Jamia students. 

The family of a protester, who died in police action during anti-CAA protests in Bijnor, had filed a complaint against 6 cops alleging that he was shot by police bullets.

Dheeraj Gurjar, who is a Congress Secretary, has been issued a challan of Rs 6,300 for riding the two-wheeler without a helmet.

Protestor Aslam said this action of bandaging one eye is in solidarity with Mohammad Minhajudin who has lost an eye but still no action has been taken against the police officers responsible and the force which created havoc in the campus.

The BJP`s minority wing has been trying to hold programmes for informing the people that "CAA and NRC will not take away the rights and citizenship of Muslims living in India, and they should refrain from protesting against the Act."

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Sunday (December 29) suspended Patheria MLA Ramabai Parihar from the party for supporting Citizenship Amendment Act. Ramabai has also been banned from participating in any party program.

Taking to Twitter, Uma shared a series of tweets writing that the top cop's reaction on the protesters was 'natural'. 

The counsel for the arrested claimed that the police had detained many people but decided to arrest only 15 who have no prior antecedents.

The students have been charged under various sections, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 and Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1932 for offences such as rioting, deterring public servant, and endangering the life of others.

During the course of hearing on the bail petition today, the Additional Public Persecutor (APP) said that the accused hatched a "criminal conspiracy" and in its pursuance, a car was put to fire, stones were pelted, barricades were broken and police officers were assaulted.

Senior Congress leaders including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Motilal Vora, AK Antony, and Rahul Gandhi sang 'Vande Matram' on the occasion.

On December 21, a Delhi court sent 11 people to 14 days judicial custody in connection with the protests against the CAA and the NRCin Seemapuri area of north east Delhi.

On Wednesday, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi also demanded that the UP government should constitute an independent panel to investigate the violence during the CAA protests in the state while alleging police excesses against the people.
