The education department of Chandigarh administration issued strict orders. The Education Secretary has given strict instructions that tobacco products should not be sold within 100 meters of schools in Chandigarh. These orders have been issued to the principals of all government and private schools.

Delhi's air quality remained in the 'very poor' category today, with overall AQI at 301, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR)-India. 

Delhi's AQI is presently at 381 (overall) in the 'very poor' category. The IMD has forecast cold to severe cold wave conditions in northwest India till January 3.

Delhi`s neighbouring states like Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana are also likely to witness a severe cold wave-like condition. IMD also stated that Delhi-NCR is likely to receive its first rain of the year on January 5 and 6.

Similar conditions are likely to persist for the next few days, the weather department has forecast. The maximum temperature is likely to settle at around 19 degrees Celsius and there will be shallow fog, it said.

Nearly 100 streets in Chennai city were waterlogged as heavy rains lashed parts of the city. A cold wave swept through Delhi on Thursday as people in the city geared up to ring in a chilly New Year. Madhya Pradesh is expected to witness chilly weather conditions for the next few days.

Delhi's temperature drops to 3,2 degrees Celsius today. Earlier, Delhi had experienced cold wave conditions on December 20 and 21.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 4°C in the Safdarjung area of Delhi on Tuesday. Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions is very likely to continue in northwest India over the next two days and abate thereafter. IMD declares a cold wave if the minimum temperature dips to 4 degrees Celsius.

A temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at 5.30 a.m in the national capital. The weather department also issued a yellow alert for the national capital for Monday. There is also a possibility of drizzling on December 24 or 25, said IMD official.

A layer of fog settles in Delhi as temperatures drop. Delhi is likely to experience 'shallow fog' today with the mercury dropping to as low as 8°C, said IMD. The air quality in the national capital continued to remain in the `very poor` quality.
