In a surgery that is no less than a miracle, a team from Narayan Health City under Dr Devi Shetty operated on Kliyan to separate her heart from that of her sister, saving one of the twins in the process.

The conjoined twins died during their treatment, despite concerted efforts by a team of specialists, said Saroj Satapathy, superintendent, Sishu Bhawan.  

The state government has already announced to bear medical expenses on the twins.

A team of 30 doctors from various departments undertook the second phase of the surgery on twins Jaga and Kalia, who are around two and a half years old.

The 28-month-old twins who are joined at the heads were taken to AIIMS on July 13 and a team of 40 doctors conducted the 20-hour long first surgery on them on August 28.
