In Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case, Patiala House Court on Friday (January 31) will hear the plea of death row convicts seeking a stay on the date of the execution on Saturday (February 1).
Nirbhaya rape and murder case convict Vinay Sharma requested the President to spare time so that his lawyer AP Singh should submit his side before him verbally.
Akshay is seeking commutation of his death sentence to life imprisonment.
Delhi court on Saturday (January 25) allowed the lawyer of the convicts to take a photocopy of painting and notebook titled `Darinda` written by convict Vinay in prison.
Earlier in the day, a Delhi court had issued a fresh death warrant against the four Nirbhaya rape case convicts who will now be executed on February 1 at 6 am. They were earlier to be hanged on February 22 at 7 am.
A notice has been issued to the state government and Nirbhaya's parents seeking an answer. The hearing in the matter will be held tomorrow at 2 pm.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday (January 14) dismissed the curative petitions of the convicts, Vinay Kumar Sharma and Mukesh, in the Nirbhaya case. The duo filed the curative plea after a Delhi court issued a death warrant in their name and announced January 22 as the date of their hanging.
If their curative plea is rejected, they would move a mercy petition before the President who has the power to commute their death sentence to life imprisonment.
In December 2019, Nirbhaya's mother had moved the Supreme Court to oppose a review plea by one of the four men sentenced to death in the case.
