They are banned for kids below 12 years of age in many countries like the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Canada, Australia and New Zealand but sadly, can be seen in almost every medical shop in India.

The court granted the relief to P&G, after having given similar reliefs in the past two days to pharma major Pfizer's cough syrup 'Corex' and Abbott Healthcare and Macleods Pharmaceuticals whose certain combination medicines were banned by the Health Ministry.

As the government banned about 350 fixed dose combination drugs, Congress member Rajeev Shukla on Wednesday expressed surprise that such medicines were being manufactured and sold for so many years and sought that the list of these drugs be made public.

Pharma majors Abbott Healthcare and Macleods Pharmaceuticals Tuesday got interim relief from the Delhi High Court which stayed till March 21 Government's decision banning sale of certain combination medicines of the two companies.

The Health Ministry, through a gazette notification, has banned over 300 fixed dose combination drugs, including cough syrups compositions, saying they involve "risk" to humans and safer alternatives were available.
