The experts said that surgeons should consider performing a non-urgent surgery on a COVID-recovered patient after at least six weeks of recovery date. Experts added that this decision will ensure faster healing of the patient.

They also said that in some patients, even months after recovery, their oxygen saturation in the blood dropped drown after speaking for a few minutes. On the likelihood of recovered persons contracting the virus again, doctors opined that there were more such cases emerging in recent times. "Damage to heart and lungs in those who recovered from COVID-19 was also a major concern," said one of the doctors.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Friday said that the COVID-19 situation is improving in the country as the recovery rate among COVID-19 patients stands at about 63%, whereas the mortality rate is just 2.72%.

Notably, his wife and another family member also had contracted COVID-19, and have successfully recovered about a month-and-a-half ago.

There are more patients who have recovered from COVID-19 in the country than active cases currently, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said on Thursday while adding that there is no community transmission of the pandemic in India yet.
