Nirbhaya is not a victim for Zee News, but a journey of justice

Supreme Court of India rejected the curative petition of Pawan Gupta, one of the convicts in the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case. Pawan claimed that he was a minor at the time of offence.

In Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case, Patiala House Court on Friday (January 31) will hear the plea of death row convicts seeking a stay on the date of the execution on Saturday (February 1). 

Akshay is seeking commutation of his death sentence to life imprisonment.

 Mukesh approached the top court on Monday seeking urgent hearing on his plea against the dismissal of his mercy petition by the President.

A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde and comprising Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant said, "If somebody is going to be hanged, then nothing can be more urgent than this."

A curative petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday (January 21) against Ayodhya verdict by Peace Party, urging the apex court to reconsider its November 9 decision which he said was taken on the basis of faith. 

If their curative plea is rejected, they would move a mercy petition before the President who has the power to commute their death sentence to life imprisonment.

A curative petition is the last legal recourse available to a convict and it is generally considered in-chamber. 

The Supreme Court on Tuesday will hold an open court hearing of the curative petition by NGO Naz Foundation seeking relook at its verdict upholding the validity of Indian Penal Code's section 377 criminalising gay sex.
