IMD on Wednesday night said that Cyclone Maha had moved east-northeastwards with a speed of 21 kmph and lay centered over east-central and adjoining northeast the Arabian Sea, about 250 km southwest of Porbandar in Gujarat and 290 km west-southwest of Diu.
Cyclone Maha is expected to make landfall on the Gujarat coast between Devbhumi-Dwarka district and Union Territory of Diu in the early hours of Thursday.
The Ministry of Defence through a press release informed that the Indian Navy is alert in the region of Gujarat and North Maharashtra Coast, which is likely to get affected by the cyclone 'Maha'.
The fishermen have also been asked not to venture into the sea till November 6 as the sea condition will be rough to very rough along the coasts. A total suspension of fishing operations has been issued
Cabinet Secretary, Rajiv Gauba, on Monday chaired a meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) to review the preparations for Cyclone Maha over Gujarat, Maharashtra and Daman and Diu.
