The death toll today rose to 163 in Bangladesh's landslides as five more persons, including three children, were killed due to incessant rains in two districts.

The monsoon rains came two weeks after Cyclone Mora smashed into Bangladesh`s southeast, killing at least eight people and damaging tens of thousands of homes.

The 33 fishermen were washed into the sea by the cyclone, and had been adrift when they were spotted floating in water by Indian Naval Ship Sumitra.

Cyclone Mora formed after monsoon rains triggered floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, off India`s southern tip, killing 202 people in recent days.

The Cyclone 'Mora' made a landfall in Bangladesh yesterday killing at least six persons and damaging houses in the neighbouring country. 

Indian Naval Ship Sumitra that was rushed for rescue operations to Bangladesh's Chittagong that was hit by cyclone Mora, has rescued 18 persons so far, officials said on Wednesday.

The southwest monsoon on Tuesday hit Kerala and the Northeast.

At least five persons were killed in Bangladesh after Cyclone Mora hit the country's south-eastern coast on Tuesday with nearly 300,000 people from 10 coastal districts already evacuated.

Cyclone Mora made landfall in Bangladesh on Tuesday morning. The powerful storm made landfall around 6 am in Kutubdia damaging several houses and packing winds of up to 117 kilometres per hour.

There were scattered showers in many parts of Sri Lanka in the past 24 hours but flood waters were rapidly receding.

Cyclone Mora struck the island of Saint Martin and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, where officials said some 200,000 people were evacuated to shelters.

The storm is going to turn into a severe one between Monday and Tuesday and would become a deep depression by May 31: IMD forecast. 

The storm made landfall on the coast between Cox`s Bazar and the main port city of Chittagong at 6:00 am.
